October 07, 2019

It’s October, and you know what that means – Halloween is almost here! Tons of people will be celebrating, whether by dressing up or decorating their homes in homage to all things scary and creepy. Though it can be a bit of a mystery as to why Halloween is so popular, one thing’s for sure: that it’s fun!

Fun is probably what inspires the multitude of horror buffs out there that love collecting all things horror-related, especially when it comes to popular movies like The Conjuring, It, Psycho, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and so on. Sites for antiques and collectables show that movie memorabilia related to these films can be worth a lot to the right collector, but so too can any toys, props, and other merchandise.

In this post, let’s take a look at some of the creepiest doll merchandise out there that is actually pretty valuable today. You might just find a valuable vintage toy on this list that you own and could possibly sell for a decent amount of money.

1. Annabelle from The Conjuring

When The Conjuringcame out in 2013 it was met with critical acclaim for its chilling realistic tale of a family in Rhode Island that was haunted by a demon back in 1970s. It’s based off a true story which is probably what makes it so compelling.

Though Annabelle was only briefly shown in the film, she managed to make quite the impression, inspiring a number of spin-off films all about her. This life-size doll is incredibly terrifying, and prop dolls of her actually have sold on eBay for over $1,000 CAN. The Annabelle from Trick or Treat Studios is being listed at over $500 US.

2. Chucky from Child’s Play

Chucky has a long history in the horror scene since his beginnings in the 1988 film Child’s Play. This knife-wielding doll can turn from cute to terrifying within seconds, which is probably why the doll based off the original movie is so valuable.

One Good Guys Doll Chucky in its original packaging could be worth up to $1,200 CAN. Meanwhile, newer versions are being sold for around $500 US.

3. Talky Tina from The Twilight Zone

An episode of The Twilight Zonecalled “Living Doll” aired back in 1963 and told the story of a father tortured by an evil doll named Talky Tina. This episode is actually partially responsible for the inspiration behind Child’s Play – that’s how iconic it is.

A limited edition Talky Tina sold recently for around $460 CAN – though not as much as the previous two, it’s still a decent amount!

4. Puppets from Puppet Master

The Puppet Masterfranchise is a series of films starting from the first one that was released in 1989. It’s about a number of scary puppets that have been animated by an Egyptian spell. While there are a number of puppets in the series, some of the most iconic ones include Blade, Jester, and Full Moon.

Listings for replicas and toy figurine sets on eBay are going for around $600 CAN, though sold listings seem to indicate that they were purchased for around $100 to $300 CAN (which still isn’t bad).

5. Billy the Puppet from Saw

When the film Sawfirst came out back in 2004 audiences were both horrified and inexplicitly drawn to the tale of ordinary people who were made to do horrible things in order to be set free. The villain of the movie appears to his captives as a puppet named Billy who tells the victims what they need to do to be set free.

A NECA Saw Billy the Puppet recently sold for around $370 CAN (iconic tricycle included) and even an authentic Funko Pop can go for around $50 or higher.

6. Slappy the Dummy from Goosebumps

Though the book and TV series Goosebumps tells a number of horror stories featuring varying characters, none are as iconic as Slappy who made multiple appearances throughout the series. A Slappy Goosebumps Ventriloquist Dummy with moving eyes and brows recently sold for around $470 CAN, and the 90s pull string version sold for about $160 CAN.
