This striking coin transports us to the Art Nouveau era that flourished from about 1890 to 1910 and features now-classic imagery from Alphonse Mucha, a painter and decorative artist whose designs stand out as some of the most spectacular of this genre. Struck in two ounces of fine silver with a superb proof quality, the finishing boasts rose gold, yellow gold and ruthenium plating to re-create the look and feel of the artist's original work. In addition to being a beautiful work of art in itself, the coin is also highly collectible with a worldwide mintage of just 999 pieces.
The reverse is based on one of Mucha's most recognized paintings: a delicate profile of a beautiful lady wearing sophisticated finery. The background of the image has fine ornaments that reinforce the air of Mucha's designs. Mucha is best known for his distinctive style; his use of tender colours and Byzantine decorative elements became the trademark of the Art Nouveau movement. His commercial works were widely seen and recognized in his day as they included ornate labels and packaging for luxury goods such as champagne, chocolates and soaps. The obverse features the coat of arms of Samoa, surrounded by the following inscriptions: the face value of the coin, its issuing country and the year 2016. The coin also comes housed in a luxury box with a certificate of authenticity inside.
